The People Democratic Party (PDP) made good its threat as its top notchers are currently protesting the outcome of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly election at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Monday.
Led by its National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar members of the National Working Committee and in coalition with Persons Living With Disabilities stormed the INEC headquarters to protest the election which they said was rigged and manipulated.
The protest which started around 10:30 am on Monday was still ongoing as at the time of this report.
The party had extended invitations to former Senate Presidents, David Mark and Bukola Saraki, Board of Trustees members, National Executive Committee members, National Working Committee members, Directors, Deputy and Assistant Directors of the National Election Management Committee, Presidential Campaign Council members as well as Persons Living With Disabilities to take part in the protest.
The protesters wore black attires in demonstration of the somber mood of the party, as the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the protest was to show the party’s disenchantment with the flawed poll, insisting that the election should be canceled.
“It (the protest) is to register its grievances and disenchantment following the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections,” he said.
