Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello says his administration is committed to the welfare of ex-servicemen in the state.
Bello said this in Lokoja, the state capital, during the launch of the 2022 emblem for Armed Forces Remembrance Day which comes up on January 15.
He said It was saddening to see ex-servicemen retire into a life of poverty after diligently serving their fatherland.
The governor, during the event, presented keys to two houses in Abuja to the wives of his late police escort outrider, Inspector Aminu Salihu.
Bello who described the late Police Inspector as a “gentleman, diligent and highly professional”, said he died when the nation needed him most.
The senior wife of the late Inspector, Martha Ode Aminu, thanked the governor for identifying and standing by them since the demise of their husband in March 2021.
She said the government adopted the family since the passing of their husband
Chairman of Nigeria Legion in the state, Warrant Officer David Salawu – a civil war veteran – lauded the governor for caring for members of the legion.
He urged people to donate generously to the legion to enable it to meet the welfare needs of its members.
Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship, Lokoja, Commodore Clement Atebi said the governor’s action would boost the morale of the servicemen.
He commended the governor for the support to all security agencies in the state and assured that the state would remain the most secured in the country.
