A total of 51,447 Nigerian pilgrims have completed registration for the 2024 hajj.
This was revealed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Friday.
However, this figure represents only those pilgrims under the state quota, not the 20,000 going through the private tour operators.
Saudi Arabia has allocated 95,000 hajj slots to Nigeria, 75,000 for states and 20, 000 for registered private tour operators.
A breakdown of the registered pilgrims figures have shown that a total of 36,261 are from the 19 Northern states and Abuja, while 6,310 are from the 17 Southern states of the country.
There are also 1,884 pilgrims going under the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS), and 1,500 under the Armed Forces.
A statement by the hajj commission’s spokesperson Fatima Sanda Usara on Friday said, “After close of registration, the official number of intending pilgrims that registered for the 2024 Hajj from Nigeria stands at 51,447 under the government quota.”
She said said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—led government played a leading role in the realization of this noble objective.
“The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) recognize the numerous sacrifices that Federal Government made against all odds towards easing the constrains off its intending pilgrims,” she said.
NAHCON had earlier fixed N4.9 million as 2024 hajj fare. But after two deadlines extensions, the commission announced another N1.9 million increase to the 48,000 registered pilgrims.
