Bandits have returned to Kaduna school where they kidnapped 287 students.
Reports from Kuriga town, within the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, indicated that suspected bandits have returned to the community, days after the traumatic incident.
Eyewitnesses noted that the armed bandits, riding on motorcycles, gathered at the old Secondary School located on the outskirts of the village late Monday night.
The villagers, comprising mainly youths, and local vigilantes, mobilized to safeguard their community in response to the renewed threat.
The circumstances surrounding this reappearance remain unclear; it’s uncertain whether it’s the same bandit group responsible for the initial abduction or a different faction altogether.
Zakari Yau, a youth in the community expressed the community’s shock and inability to communicate due to the poor telecommunication network.
“They returned on motorcycles and assembled at the abandoned old Secondary School building at the town’s entrance.
“We’re apprehensive about their intentions, but despite our fears, we’re determined to defend our community as there are no security agencies stationed here. We appeal for urgent assistance from the relevant authorities,” Yau pleaded.
Another resident, Lawal Kuriga, corroborated the account, affirming the bandits’ presence on Monday evening at the outskirts of the community.
He further described the confusion among women and children, prompting many to spend the night outdoors, fearing the unknown intentions of the bandits.
Lawal emphasized that they promptly alerted the security agencies about the situation. He emphasized on the need to have security agencies presence in the community.
Efforts to reach the state Police command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, for comment were unsuccessful.
