A committee has been set up by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to investigate factors responsible for the high cost of international flights from Nigeria.
Acting Director-General of NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, made this known through a video press release posted on the Authority’s official X handle on Monday.
He said the NCAA was aware of and concerned about the high costs of international air travel in the country, and that he has set up a high-powered committee to examine all the factors affecting airfare prices and how they can be lowered.
Najomo said the NCAA was also meeting with airlines, stakeholders, and other agencies to ensure the reduction of international airfares in Nigeria is achieved.
“It has come to the notice of this Authority (NCAA) about the increase and high cost of air fares, especially on the international travels.
“NCAA, in a view of trying to make sure that these air fares are brought down have decided to set up a high-powered committee which will look at all the variances and how we can bring down this air fares down.
“We’ve met with the airlines and other stakeholders and other agencies to make sure that this is done.”
Recently, regional Vice-President for Africa and the Middle East at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Kamil Al Awadhi, in an interview on CNBC Africa, said the cost of operating airlines in Nigerian airports is one of the most expensive in Africa and also the reason for the high cost of airline tickets in the country.
