The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has called on federal law makers to give back to the society through setting up foundations that would impart education, skills, and entrepreneurship.
Emir Bayero made the call in his speech at the recent unveiling of Peace in South-East Project (PISE-P) initiated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
The event held in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Emir told Kalu that “Your leadership presents an opportunity to champion initiatives that will address the pressing needs of your people and promote inclusive development across Nigeria.
“We encourage you and all other elected representatives to set up foundations and endowments to give back to the society especially in the areas of education, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship. This will go a long way in cushioning the effects harsh economic situation being experienced by many ordinary Nigerians today.
He said: “Today, as we celebrate the attainment of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu to a greater height, we are reminded of the importance of maintaining peaceful coexistence between the North and the East and indeed all regions of our great country, It is imperative that we continue to foster dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration, transcending tribal differences for the collective prosperity of our motherland.”
The Emir called on the deputy speaker to use the platform to cater to the poor and the indigent in the society, saying it will help to mitigate their economic challenges.
“We call upon the Deputy Speaker to utilise his esteemed position to advocate for the upliftment of the poor and the less privileged in our society. Times are hard and people are increasingly finding difficult to fend for themselves and take care of their family.
He also called for more prayers for God to sustain the unity and peace among Nigerians.
Emir Bayero pledges that he will continue to identify and promote activities that will foster peace between the North, the South-East and indeed, all regions in the country to ensure that it is sustained in Nigeria.
““As a matter of significance beyond celebrating our achievements, let us not relent in prayer, seeking peace, divine guidance and prosperity for our beloved nation. May we continue to work together, guided by the noble principles of justice, compassion, equity and unity, as we strive to build a brighter future for all Nigerian,” the Emir said.
