The Adamawa government says it will encourage cluster farming to boost productivity and enhance food security.
The state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri stated this while presenting N225.8 billion 2024 Appropriation Bill to the state House of Assembly, on Friday in Yola.
According to Fintiri, agriculture plays a vital role in not only providing employment and economic development of the society but also in improving social and economic wellbeing of the people.
“Investing in food security encompasses human capital development and improved livelihood.
“The agriculture policy of Adamawa State is aligned with the main goals of the national policy on agriculture.
“And is principally aimed at increasing the productivity of crop and livestock sub-sectors to raise the standard of living of the farming communities and attain food security,” he said.
Fintiri said the state government had subsidised fertilisers, inputs and farm implements to enhance farmer access to the commodities and encourage productivity.
He said the state government would also pursue comprehensive extension and farmer support services to promote use of organic fertiliser, water resource management and manufacturing of small farms.
“In the long term, the focus will be on issues including soil surveys, the establishment of agro-industrial parks, and the manufacturing of farm machinery and implements,” he said.
