Kano farmers cautioned against sale of farm lands to foreigners

Farmers across Kano state have been cautioned to desist from selling their farmlands to foreigners or unknown individuals without proper investigation to avert insecurity or other menace in the society.

The appeal was made by the state Commissioner for Solid Minerals Safiyanu Hamza Kachako during an emergency meeting with stakeholders. According to him an action plan designed by the ministry would soon take effect across the state to ensure only formal mining activities were allowed to prevail adding that the action plan will include the operational commencement of a Task Force to ensure overall sanity in the mining sector.

The commissioner also urged Council Chairmen of some local government areas in the state to provide laws against selling farmlands to foreigners or unknown persons and cooperate fully with the ministry in that direction to encourage farming activities as well as to promote security and safety within their areas.

It was reliably gathered that The appeal followed some reports gathered by the ministry on how farmers have been selling their farmlands to some foreigners in some local government areas of the state with particular reference to Shanono local government area and some other local governments in the state.

Similarly, reacting to this, the Shanono Council Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Barau revealed that there are plans by the Council to investigate the matter as well as to look at possible investment opportunities in mining within the area while warning farmers against the attitude and pledged to check the menace in accordance with the local government mandate.
