Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been placed in judicial jail for two weeks on charges of disclosing state secrets, According to his counsel.
After a special court heard the hearings on the jail grounds in Attock city on Wednesday, Khan’s custody was prolonged until September 13 to investigate him in the so-called “cypher” case.
The former prime minister is accused of making public the contents of a sensitive cable received by Pakistan’s ambassador to the US in order to achieve political advantage.
“We have filed a bail petition in the court and it will be heard on Saturday,” Khan’s lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha said after the court heard the “cypher” case under the country’s Official Secrets Act.
Khan’s new detention comes a day after the Islamabad High Court Suspended his three-year jail sentence on corruption charges.
