The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has called for partnership in local production and domestication of lithium batteries and renewable energy.
The vice-chairman made the call when he received a business delegation from LEMI Technology, Shenzhen, China at the Agency’s corporate headquarters on Tuesday.
This is contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, Spokesperson of the agency and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement, Dr Bashir Gwandu, the Vice-Chairman, NASENI, says that the agency is committed and determined to partner with international companies that are willing to establish industries in Nigeria.
Gwandu said that the industries would be for local production of renewable energy solutions.
“We are expecting such companies to manufacture electric vehicles parts, among others.
“NASENI is already doing a lot in the area of solar panel production.
“The agency has held meetings with other companies from around the world with a view to seeking partnerships on local production of lithium-based end-products in Nigeria,” he said.
Gwandu said that domestication of technologies, capital goods production and commercialisation in the country would help bridge the technological gaps between Nigeria and other countries.
“We are giving opportunities to partners to come and establish in Nigeria.
“This will be more attractive to companies that want to patronise our products.
“It will also help in domesticating these technologies,” the vice-chairman said.
He added that he was optimistic that the call was an opportunity for partners who had the intent to produce in Nigeria to do so.
Responding the Chief Executive Officer, LEMI Technology, Mr. Xie Feng, said that Nigeria and China had a relationship of many years.
He said that because the nation was a hub for investment opportunities, his organisation was willing to partner with NASENI.
Feng said that the partnership would be through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on renewable energy with particular reference to products like solar and television panels, inverters and battery production. (NAN)
