Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has accused the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) of treating his state unfairly.
He disclosed this when he hosted the management team of the nddc led by its acting Managing Director Eng. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua on Saturday, saying the commission has marginalised Imo State.
Recalling the Covid-19 pandemic era, Uzodimma said failed to come to the aide of his states and further said some states suffered similar faith as well.
He therefore said the NDDC has derailed from the motives for which it was set up.
According to Governor Uzodimma, the commission’s past management only adopted maintenance approach to solving problems affecting the member states as instead of projects conception and implementation.
He said the commission abandoned the mandate for which it was established as contained in its, adding that critical stakeholders in the oil and gas sector have not been treated fairly.
He told the new management to immediately work on the Elele-Owerri corridor of old Owerri-Port Harcourt road as well as on the Mgbidi-Awomama axis of Owerri-Onitsha road in his emergency programme ahead of yuletide as both corridors are key to major movements involving indigenes of the state and other road users.
Governor Uzodimma asked the NDDCto intervene in the flood-ravaged Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta local government areas in Imo State to cushion the effects of their hardship.
Audu-Ohwavborua said they were in the state at this time to present drugs to victims of flood disaster in some riverine communities in Imo State.
While agreeing with Governor Uzodinma that there were problems, he however, reassured him the commission’s resolve to solve the problems facing it.
“We are technocrats. We don’t make promises we are not ready to honour. Be rest assured that the marginalisation has ended.”
