Last year was a devastating year of pandemic for a lot of people and of course the Nigerian movie industry. Shoots were cancelled, release of films were delayed, and production companies have to find new and innovative ways to convince their audience to visit the cinemas, in the middle of a pandemic that has threatened the very existence of human identity.
Let’s take a look at some of what to expect from Nollywood this year:
King of Boys
Kemi Adetiba released ‘King of Boys’ in 2018, which was a political thriller about a businesswoman Eniola Salami (Sola Sobowale). After three years she is set to release a sequel which will be exclusive to Netflix.
The six
The six is another blockbuster to expect this year, it will be a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free’. It is the continuation of the story of a dangerous cult led by the enigmatic Richard Williams (Ramsey Noah).
Domitila
This will be the remake of the 1996 crime drama ‘domitila’ which will be directed by Zeb Ejiro. This sequel might be in theaters in the first quarters of this year which will be full of drama following the adventures of a young Domitila who accidentally witnesses the mysterious death of a politician.
Death and the King’s Horseman
It is based on a real incident where the horseman of a Yoruba King was prevented from committing ritual suicide by the colonial authorities. It is also a Wole Soyinka’s 1975 play ‘Death and the King’s Horseman’ which is expected to be adapted into a film.
Osuofia Goes to Miami
‘Osuofia Goes to Miami’, a production by Play Studio scheduled for a 2021 release and directed by Agozie Ugwu which will see Osuofia make a comeback as the film’s lead. His attempt to marry his brother’s fiancée in accordance with Nigerian customs results is the film’s major conflict
