A former Governor of Nasarawa State and top contender for the position of tne National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Tanko Al-Makura, has stepped down ahead of its national convention in Abuja, Saturday March 26, 2022.
This was contained in a Facebook timeline of Ali Abare, an aide to Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Both Al-Makura and Adamu were former governor of Nasarawa State and currently representing their various zones at the National Assembly as senators.
The development finally cleared the way for the candidature of Senator Abdullahi Adamu who is the President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice for the position.
The post include incisive photos with Senator Adamu, his co-contestant for the position Al-makura with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Part of the post reads: “We must appreciate and commend His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for his exemplary leadership in managing the political impasse of the past few days, involving two of our prominent leaders.”
According to Abare, Governor Sule has demonstrated an uncommon leadership, in his ability to manage a situation that could not have augured well for the political development of Nasarawa State.
He said, “In the same vein, we should thank Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, for agreeing to step down from the contest, paving the way for a resolution of the impasse. That he agrees to step down out of his deep respect for President Muhammadu Buhari, his political mentor, shows he is indeed, a visionary leader that has the interest of both the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasarawa State and Nigeria at heart.”
Media Aide to Senator Al-Makura, Mr.Danjuma Joseph, confirmed that his boss has step down in an interview with our reporter.
“Yes its true that my boss has graciously stepped down in the interest of party unity and respect for President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
