The House of Representatives Technical Committee on Customs and Excise says the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been carrying out secret recruitments since the past 17 years.
Chairman of the committee Leke Abejide said this on Wednesday at the NCS Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, in Abuja, as part of tours of NSC formations.
He said the committee has discovered that most of the NCS formations across the country are operating with middle and senior officers, that the service has been short of junior staff, which is threatening its operations.
The committee therefore summoned the Controller General of NCS, Hameed Ibrahim Ali, to appear before the House and explain the non-recruitment of officers into the service for the past 17 years.
“In the real sense of it, recruitment should be a yearly affair. How can you put one person to do the job of ten people,” the committee said.
