A lawmaker representing Sabon Birni South at the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Saidu Ibrahim, says he could not visit his constituency because it has been taken over by bandits.
Ibrahim told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on telephone that the bandits have become lords, as no one dares take any decision without consulting them.
“No district head or village head, not to talk of a ward head that can say anything against the bandits. This is the true picture of the situation,” the lawmaker said.
“Even when there are issues to be settled, no formal setting can intervene because everyone is afraid of the bandits. In most of the villages under Isa and Sabon Birni local government areas, I swear to you they are all under bandits’ control. Bandits are in charge. They have occupied the whole place,” he said.
He said he was ready to lead security operatives to bandits whenever they were ready to confront them.
“I’ve seen soldiers in high numbers, but they’re not patrolling where they should,” Ibrahim said.
“They’re based in Sabon Birni, Gundumi and Isa towns. They should go to the villages in Eastern Bafarawa and Burkuuma, they should go to those places if they’re really looking for the bandits,” the lawmakers said.
