Niger State government is to partner with a New Zealand-based company, Bradford and Holstein, to revive Audu Kenchi Grazing Reserve located in Lavun local government area of the state.
Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, Haruna Nuhu Dukku, disclosed this during a visit to Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, in his palace in Bida.
Dukku said the culture of open grazing among cattle breeders is fast fading, hence the need to provide modern approaches to livestock farming.
“Government is deliberately committed to being a leading solution provider in line with solving the age long herders-farmers clashes through the revitalization of our grazing reserves,” he said.
“Our people must be sensitized on the need to embrace this initiative and do away with fear of the unknown.”
Dukku said the government’s efforts to revamp grazing reserves across state was not intended to dislodge the locals who are presently settled in the reserves, but to integrate them for them to benefit from innovation and new technologies.
The Etsu Nupe appreciated the visit and assured the government of unflinching support to enable the initiative succeed.
