Many soldiers have been arrested and presently undergoing interrogation over a failed attempt in Sudan on Tuesday.
The Sudanese state media reported that an attempted coup in Sudan “failed” early on Tuesday, and called on people to repulse it.
A member of the ruling military-civilian council, Mohamed Al Faki Suleiman, said on his Facebook page, also “All is under control. The revolution is victorious,” also calling on the Sudanese to protect the transition.
Sudan has been on a fragile path to democratic rule since the military ousted the country’s longtime autocratic ruler, Omar al-Bashir in April 2019, following four months of mass protests.
The country is now ruled by a joint civilian and military government that faces towering economic and security challenges.
The Sudane coup attempt came three weeks after Lt.-Colonel Mamady Doumbouya-led soldiers overthrew demicratic government of President Alpha Conde in Guinea.
