The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has picked up a former member of the House of Representatives, Gudaji Kazaure, for allegedly receiving N70 million from a former governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE learnt that the operatives of the commission arrested Kazaure on Wednesday shorty after a Kano High Court vacated a restraining order against him
An EFCC source revealed that Kazaure received N20 million twice from through Emefiele’s emissary named Mr Eric to buy “Sallah Rams”.
Kazaure reportedly received N 50 million as “donation” from Emefiele, the former lawmaker’s residence was gutted by fire.
It was learnt that the commission is currently holding the former lawmaker at its office in Kano and may be taken to Abuja to be prosecuted
It would be recalled that the former lawmaker had in December 2022 accused Emefiele of corruption, alleging that N89.1 trillion Stamp Duty charges were missing under the former CBN governor.
Kazaure said he was prevented from presenting a preliminary report of a committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to examine the alleged stamp duty funds being withheld by the CBN.
But the presidency, through its former spokesperson Garba Shehu, however denied Kazaure’s allegations, adding that the said committee had since been dissolved.
