Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the arrest of former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme Professor Usman Yusuf, a prominent social critic.
Atiku made the condemnation on his X account tweeted, where he also accused President Bola Tinubu of using state machinery to silence critics and suppress opposition, rather than genuinely fighting corruption.
Atiku faulted the timing of Yusuf’s arrest, saying the charges against Usman originated from the previous administration.
According to the former Vice President, Tinubu was being partial sheltering individuals under investigation while exploiting state institutions to stifle dissent.
He said “it’s clear that Tinubu’s administration is more focused on manipulating the system for political gain than addressing corruption”.
