Saturday’s local government election in Kano State will hold despite an order by Justice Simon Ameboda of the Federal High Court stopping the election.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this in a statement by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Thursday.
The governor, who spoke campaign rally held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, however, said the state at this moment would not allow anybody to destabilise the existing peace being enjoyed by the citizenry, adding that the state government and KANSIEC had all the constitutional backing to hold the election.
Amedoda also ordered the removal of the state Independent Electoral Commission (KANSEIC) chairman pending the a properly constituted one.
The governor who presented flags of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) to 44 chairmanship candidates in the council, said “no one will stop the KANSIEC from holding the polls,” adding that the government was ready to sworn-in the candidates declared winners by the electoral body.
The governor told NNPP card-carrying members to return to their respective wards and prepare well for the election, describing them as real supporters of the party.
