Former Chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), Professor Humphrey Nwosu, is dead.
He died in a hospital in the United States, according to family associates.
He was 83.
Professor Nwosu organised the controversial June 12, 1993 election that was annulled by the then military regime.
He was appointed NEC Chairman by the then Military President Ibrahim Babangida, serving from 1989 to 1993.
The June 12 election was between Chief Moshood Abiola of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Alhaji Bashir Tofa of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).
The election was annulled by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja before a winner was declared.
