The Sultanate Council has assured Nigerians that the amended Chieftaincy law of Sokoto State would not reduce the powers of the Sultan
The council, however, distanced itself from the insinuation making the round that, the new law was targeted at the Sultan.
Speaking at the public hearing on the Sokoto local government and chieftaincy bill on Tuesday, a senior counselor and Sa’in Kilgori, Dr. Jabbi Kilgori said there was no rift between the Sultan and Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
“It is not truth that the law is meant to reduce the power of the Sultan.
“We are not in support of any insinuation that the Sultan is the target. That the Sultan is having issues with the Governor. This is not truth.
“The Sultan and the Governor have been talking and consulting. There is no cause for alarm.
“The sultanate council is committed and determined to implement any law given to it.
“This is not the first time the law is amended,” he added.
Earlier, the Attorney General of the state reiterated that, section 76(6) was dealing only with traditional rulers not the Sultan as being insinuating.
