Nine hundred and thirty-seven people have been killed, with another 1,972 abducted in Kaduna state in 2020, according to a security report released Wednesday.
The document titled ‘Security Situation in Kaduna State Report’, released by the state ministry of internal security and home affairs on Wednesday, states that Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Giwa, and Chikun local governments areas account for 468 (representing about 50 percent) of the 937 deaths recorded last year.
Igabi has the highest death figure of 152, followed by Kajuru 144, the report signed by commissioner of internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated.
The southern senatorial district accounts for 286 deaths (representing one-third of the total casualties), which are results of sporadic clashes and banditry.
The report also shows that Kaduna central senatorial district accounts for 1,561 of the total abductions, with 1,461 of the figures kidnaped in Brinin Gwari, Igabi, Giwa, and Chikun local governments.
While presenting the report, Mr Aruwan said contrary to some skewed narratives, the victims of kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities cut across all ethnic and religious groups in the state.
“Victims of criminal acts like banditry and kidnapping are to be found across ethnic, religious or political leanings and persuasions,” he said.
He said the state has also strengthened the human intelligence gathering networks in critical area, collaborate more with federal security agencies in reinforcement and logistics, empowered communities towards peaceful settlement of disputes and supporting strong responses towards areas considered volatile in the state.
