Forty-three people have been killed in a cholera outbreak in some communities in Borno state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Juliana Bitrus, disclosed this at a press conference in Maiduguri, the Borno State, on Tuesday.
Bitrus said about 559 cases have been reported so far.
Borno State is the epic-center of the Boko Haram insurgency that has caused several humanitarian crises in the last 12 years since the crisis broke out in the north-east geo-political region of Nigeria.
The commissioner said the communities affected by the disease include Gwoza, Baga, Magumeri, Hauwu, Damboa, Jere and Maiduguri municipalities.
She said Gwoza is the most affected with 353 cases of infection and 18 deaths, followed by Hauwu which has a total of 126 cases and 11 deaths.
Bitrus said 39 cases were recorded in Damboa with 10 deaths, while Baga has 22 cases of infection with two deaths.
Magemeri has six cases and one death, and Jere eight cases and one death.
The commissioner urged the residents of the areas to desist from any acts that would further worsen the situation, adding that the government was working hard to bring the outbreak under control within a short time.
