Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Saturday ruled out the possibility of his leading the country as president.
El-Rufai said at 62, he shouldn’t be nursing such ambition, saying he is already too old to run for the country’s highest political office.
He however did not rule out the possibility of becoming the vice president.
In a interview the BBC Pidgin service monitored by our reporter, the governor said, leading Nigeria required a lot of energy and stamina which he no longer possess at 62, adding that administering a state like Kaduna has had a telling effect on him.
He said:”If you see my picture when I was sworn in, my hair was very black but look at how it has become. This is a very difficult job and that is just state governor, one state out of 36, a big one, yes; a difficult one, yes, but it is not the same as Nigeria,
“President of Nigeria is a very serious job, it is too much for a 62-year-old.”
On whether he would run for the office of the vice president said,“I have not thought about it at all.”
He said he was among those who have insisted that the presidency should rather go the South in 2023.
“I have said it that in the political system we have, after eight years of President Buhari, the presidency should go to the south,” he noted.
