President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday announced the appointment of Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the new group chief executive officer (CEO)Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
Ojulari takes over from Mallam Mele Kyari who was first appointed by former president Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
The appointment is effective today, April 2.
Here are some 10 things to know about Ojulari:
1. Bashir Ojulari is a native of Kwara State.
2. He is a 1989 graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where be bagged a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
3. Until his new appointment, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company which recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in the landmark acquisition of the entire equity holding in the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), worth $2.4 billion.
4. He began his career in the oil sector at Elf Aquitaine as the first Nigerian process engineer.
5. He joined Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd in 1991 as an associate production technologist.
6. In 2015, he became the managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO). He also served on the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), overseeing onshore and offshore petroleum engineering, technical integration of development, well engineering, and project engineering.
7. Ojulari has also worked in Europe and the Middle East in different capacities as a petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.
8. Ojulari has been the board chairman of BAT Advisory and Energy, a company that specialises in upstream and midstream investment advisory, since 2022.
9. He was chairman and member of the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigerian Council) from 1998 to 1999.
10. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
