Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has allocated 30 hectares of land for the establishment of an Industrial Equipment and Machinery Development Institute (IEMDI) and skill acquisition centre in the state.
Zulum gave the order in Maiduguri when he received the Executive Vice Chairman of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Prof. Mohammed Haruna.
The governor said the land be allocated immediately and ordered that its documentation should be completed in one week.
“Government of Borno State will provide support for the establishment of IEMDI and the Skill Acquisition Institute projects. I have directed 30 hectares of land allocated to NASENI and all documents presented in one week”, Zulum said.
The directive was sequel to the approval President Muhammadu Buhari’s gave for the establishmen to fthe Centre in the state, which was conveyed by Sani.
“The President has approved the location (Borno) for establishment of the Industrial Equipment and Machinery Development Institute (IEMDI). The President has also approved establishment of the Skills Development Institute. These are as a result of your performance”, Haruna said during the visit.
Sani said the institute would research, design and manufacture tools and machines to fast-track establishment of cottage industries.
He said the Institute will also produce spare parts to ensure industrialisation of Borno and Northeast.
Haruna said more youths without formal education would be empowered to become self-reliant.
