The Zamfara State Government says plans are underway to establish a Football Academy to revitalise the sports in the state.
Alhaji Tasi’u Musa, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, stated this in a statement by the Information Officer of the ministry, Suleman Aliyu, in Gusau on Friday.
Musa said that the establishment of the academy was one of the projects to be executed under Gov. Dauda Lawal’s “Rescue Mission”.
“The academy serves as a significant booster to the economy of the state and also provides an opportunity for the select talented players in the field of football.
“The initiative aims to train and prepare our talented players for foreign football clubs.
“This is to support the government’s policies on positive reforms, to revive the state economy,” he said.
The commissioner said that the ministry had set up a committee to work out modalities to revive the abandoned traditional sports like Langa, Dambe and Kokawa.
“This is to stimulate sports activities and encourage youth to develop their traditional potential in the sports sector,” he said.
Musa appealed to the people of the state to continue to support the government’s policies and programmes for the rescue mission of the governor to succeed.
