The Students Affairs Officer of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic Talata Mafara, Sanusi Halilu Kaura, has been killed by his abductors after collecting N4 million ransom.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reported how Mr Halilu was abducted alongside other government officials while on their way to Abuja to attend pre – NYSC mobilization workshop.
A cousin of late polytechnic staffer, Muhammad Iliyasu, said the bandits informed them that they’ve killed the victim after collecting ransom.
“They even refused to give us the corpse for proper burial,” he said amidst sobs through the phone.
A lecturer at the Mass Communication department of the school who craved anonymity said they have received information of the killing of their colleague.
“They killed him on Sunday because when we were negotiating with them, they used to give him the phone so that he could speak to us but for two days, even when we assured them that we were bringing the money, they didn’t give him the phone. I knew something bad had happened because they completely stopped even talking about him for two days but they kept asking us to bring the money,” he said.
He said the ransom was gathered by staff of the institutions, family members and his friends after which staff of the polytechnic and two of the deceased family members from Kaura Namoda took the ransom to the bandits.
The lecturer said he communicated with his colleague and he was informed that they had to sleep over in Birnin Gwari.
“They slept there yesterday (Tuesday) and waited for hours before the bandits called them but still they didn’t let them speak with him but they asked them to take the money into the bush and go back to Birnin Gwari and wait for him,” he said.
He added that the bandits, after making them waited for more than seven hours, called to inform them that they killed the abductee two days ago.
Efforts to get an official confirmation from the institution’s public relations officer, Aliyu Damri, were not successful as his line was switched off.
