The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara Council, Malam Ibrahim Maizare, has commended Gov. Dauda Lawal for building a multi-million Naira council’s Secretariat complex.
Maizare gave the commendation when the contractor handed over the NUJ secretariat project to the state government on Thursday in Gusau.
“On behalf of the entire working journalists in the state, I want to extend our gratitude to Gov. Dauda Lawal for building this befitting secretariat complex for working journalists in Zamfara.
“The journalists are the members of the fourth estate of the realm, our work always promotes accountability, development, peace and stability in the society.
“The NUJ as a big umbrella of the journalism profession, we are partners in progress,” he said.
Maizare described the project as a welcome development, adding that it would enhance the working condition of the entire working journalists in the state.
He said over the years, past leaders of NUJ in the state had made efforts to secure this achievement,adding, “but we are very lucky today, Gov. Lawal has done it for us.
“This is an indication of Gov. Lawal’s concern to the journalists and the journalism profession.
“This secretariat will promote the working condition of the entire working Journalists in the state.
“On behalf of the National President of the NUJ, Mr Alhassan Yahaya, we thank the Governor for recording this great achievement for the journalism profession in the state.”
Receiving the new building from the contractor, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry for Land and Infrastructure, Sanusi Jabaka, commended him for doing a quality job.
He said, “This is in line with Gov. Lawal’s administration commitment to promoting infrastructural development in the state,” Jabaka stressed.
He said the new secretariat, comprised a large hall, offices and sanitary facilities, would provide a comfortable working environment for journalists.
The permanent secretary urged NUJ to maintain the building effectively for present and future use.
Earlier, the contractor, Alhaji Garba Almajir, said the project was started and completed within 37 days.
“We have delivered a quality job in line with all contractual agreements as given by the state government,” Almajir said.
