As part of efforts to pacify aggrieved politicians that have been edged out of the 2023 calculations after their seats were ceded to former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, Zamfara state governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle has met with two lawmakers from the state.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered from impeccable sources that Matawalle invited Senator Lawal Hassan Dan Iya (Zamfara West) and Kabiru Ahmadu Mai Palace (Gusau/Tsafe) for a discussion over the issue.
Following an agreement signed between Matawalle and Yari in Abuja, two senators, seven House of Representatives, 11 House of Assembly members and others have been ceded to the Yari and Marafa camp.
In a video that went viral, Kabir Mai Palace faulted the decision to include his seat as part of the agreement and vowed to change political party to contest.
“Yes, we met with the governor yesterday and the discussions have just begun but I’m not sure Honourable will accept the governor’s new proposal,” one of the lawmaker’s legislative aides told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE Wednesday morning.
The meeting, which took place in Abuja Tuesday night was led by the state APC Chairman and other party leaders.
“Senator Lawal Dan Iya was also invited for the peace meeting. We’re angry because before we followed him to APC, His Excellency promised that he would give us direct return ticket in 2023. When I heard of the rumour of giving our seats to Yari, I called Honourable (Kabir Mai Palace) said I shouldn’t worry because he knew Matawalle would not betray us but he had just done that.
“The meeting will continue in Zamfara in the weekend and we can only tell the governor our decision after consulting with our supporters,” the anonymous aide said.
A legislative aide to Senator Dan Iya, Sha’aban Lawal Anka, confirmed that there was a meeting between his principal and the governor but said he wouldn’t comment because he was not part of the meeting.
