The Zamfara State Government has approved the settlement of outstanding school fees to Sharda University in India.
The debt was incurred by the previous administration of Governor Bello Matawalle.
This was revealed in a statement by the Zamfara State Scholarship Board signed by Ahmed Haruna on Wednesday.
The statement said, “The Zamfara State Scholarship Board is pleased to announce another significant milestone in its commitment to the educational advancement of the youths of Zamfara State. His Excellency, the Executive Governor, has graciously approved the settlement of outstanding fees owed by the previous administration to Sharda University in India.
“It will be recalled that a number of Zamfara State indigenes were sponsored to study various courses at Sharda University under the past administration. Unfortunately, these students were abandoned midway through their academic journey as their tuition and upkeep were not paid. Despite this setback, Sharda University magnanimously allowed them to complete their studies under extremely challenging conditions.
“Through the intervention of the present administration under His Excellency. Governor Dauda Lawal. and in line with the Rescue Mission Agenda, all the affected students have now been safely brought back home. Furthermore. the Governor has approved the immediate settlement of the accumulated debt to enable the graduates to receive their certificates without further delay.”
This development will not only restore hope to the affected students and their families but will also allow these young professionals to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole, the board said.
