The Zamfara State Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, has resigned his appointment.
On Monday, Governor Dauda Lawal told all political appointees seeking to contest elective offices to resign their positions.
The governor has accepted the resignation, according to a statement sent to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE by the Secretary Of the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada.
“His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki.
“Disclosing the development, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam also announced that Governor Lawal has appointed the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam to concurrently oversee the Education Ministry as Overseeing Commissioner with immediate effect,” the statement added.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is scheduled to officially receive Governor Lawal into the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Tuesday.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that Mr Lawal left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) earlier this month to the APC.
This newspaper gathered that both members of the federal and state legislatures from the PDP have given the governor assurances on Monday during a stakeholders meeting at the government house.
Few minutes after the stakeholders’ meeting, 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that Mr Madawaki sent in his resignation letter to the governor.
Though Madawaki didn’t mention his reasons for resignation, insiders told this reporter that the commissioner would be staying in PDP.
An insider who sought anonymity told this newspaper that the Madawaki would be staying in PDP because of General Ali Gusau retired.
“He is one of his (Gen. Ali Gusau) top boys in the state. We knew from the beginning that he (Madawaki) wouldn’t be joining us because of his allegiance to Ali Gusau,” the insider said.
