The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended eight members indefinitely
The spokesperson of the Assembly Bello Madaro Kurya, disclosed this in a statement, adding that the House had also dissolved all Standing Committees.
The statement revealed that the “Request for the suspension of the eight members was presented by the House Majority Leader Honourable Bello Muhd Mazawaje Tsafe, and seconded by the Deputy Speaker Honourable Adamu Aliyu Gummi Honourable Nura.’
According to Speaker Moriki, the affected members included Honourable Bashiru Aliyu Gummi Representing Gummi One, Honourable Bashiru Bello Sarkin Zango, Bungudu West, Honourable Shamsudeen Hassan Basko, Mafara North, Honourable Faruku Musa Dosara Mafara South, Honourable Amiru Ahmad Keta Representing Tsafe West Honourable Ibrahim T Tukur Representing Bakura, Honourable Barrister Bashiru Abubakar Masama Representing Bukkuyum North, Honourable Nasiru Abdullahi Maru North.
Tsafec said the lawmakers were being accused of holding an illegal plenary, adding that the affected members had attemted to broke the office of the Clerk to the House, and that of Chief Sergeant which he said breached the Law.
He therefore called on members to approve the Indefinite suspension of the affected eight members pending the House investigation into the matter.
The members representing Anka, Bukkuyum South, and Birnin Magaji, Rilwanu Marafa Anka, Honourable Hamisu a Faru Nassarawa and Nura Dahiru Sabon Birni respectively said there is need for the House to discipline the due to their alleged involvement to serve as deterrent.
The House unanimously approved the motion as the Speaker Bi’yaminu Ismail Moriki announced the indefinite suspension of the eight members.
The Speaker also dissolved all standing committees of the House in line with the House resolution.
It would be recalled that last week the alleged eight members held a Plenary without the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and all Principal Officers, Clerk to the House, and Chief Sergeant at Arm, which the House described as illegal.
