Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two of its members for three months over alleged involvement in bandits’ activities.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the two suspended lawmakers are Ibrahim Tudu- Tukur (Bakura) and Yusuf Anka (Anka).
The two local government areas are among the hardest hit in terms of bandits’ attacks and kidnapping.
An anonymous house member told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE Tuesday evening that the House would not shield any of its members found wanted.
“Today’s sitting began with the Speaker swearing with the Holy Quran to distance himself from any bandits activities in the state. He is still visible disturbed following his father’s death,” he said.
He added that the two suspended lawmakers were suspended because of their alleged closeness with bandits in their areas.
He however didn’t say if the suspended lawmakers agreed to take the oath or not.
The suspension was also confirmed by a top Government House source.
Mustafa Jaafar Kaura, the Speaker’s official spokesman, didn’t respond to calls and SMS sent to him on the issue.
Another lawmaker told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE through phone that “yes, they’ve been suspended but I’ll advise you to wait for an official statement.”
