The Zamfara House of Assembly has resumed plenary after its 2025 end of year recess, and expressed commitment to prioritising capacity building for its members of staff and assemblymen.
The Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, announced this at the assembly’s plenary in Gusau on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the sitting, the lawmakers deliberated,unanimously and adopted the nine action points to improve effective legislative services in the state.
The unanimous resolution of the house followed a motion moved by the Majority Leade, Bello Mazawaje (PDP, Tsafe-East).
Mazawaje stressed the need for the members of the house to deliberate and approve the adoption of the action points aimed to enhance the operations of the state legislature.
According to him, the action points will also serve as another long-awaited development for the assembly and the people of the state.
He stated that the nine action points included: In-house training for staff as well as strengthening the capacity of members of House Committee on Public Accounts.
“Other actions were oversight manual for committees, advocating the assent of Public Expenditure Bill and the establishment of the Zamfara Budget Research Office (ZABRO).
“The actions also included the development of the seventh assembly’s legislative agenda, oversight calendar, as well as CSO’s liaison office.
“Others were the presentation of assets register by MDAs in the state, amendment of assembly’s service commission law 2024, ICT Department,”among others.
Mazawaje stated that the actions were also aimed at enhancing the assembly’s effectiveness, ” the majority leader said.
In their separate contributions, members of the house unanimously assured their full support for the adoption of the matter.
The speaker, while responding to the lawmakers’ deliberations, described the actions as a welcome development.
He said the entire members of the house had unanimously resolved to adopt the nine action points to bolster its effeciemcy.
Meanwhile, the speaker had also announced the dissolution of all the standing committees of the house.
He said that the composition of the new committees would be announced later.
