The Kano State New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chapter has alleged that the state government was targeting its members in a political witch-hunt.
The NNPP spokesperson in the state, Ibrahim Karaye revealed this in a statement, adding that the the government’s actions were undemocratic and unwarranted.
According to party, it formed the state government on the NNPP platform before abandoning it, lamenting that the government had begun withdrawing allocated Hajj seats to some of its members, including former commissioners, advisers and party leaders.
Karaye said the affected individuals are citizens of Kano State entitled to such privileges.
The party said the state government was harassing and intimidating former political office holders to return official vehicles allocated to them during their tenure, adding that the vehicles were part part of their consolidated benefits while in service.
It told the state government to desist from the actions which it said could undermine democratic principles, adding that politics should be conducted with decorum and mutual respect.
It said the state government should respect the constitutional right to freedom of association, warning that political offices are not permanent.
