Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has scrapped the Ministr of Higher Education in the state.
Until this moment, Kano State Deputy Governor Abdulsalam Gwarzo was the commissioner of the defunct ministry.
A week ago, Kano State House of Assembly has began impeachment proceedings against Mr Gwarzo over alleged gross misconduct.
Governor Yusuf dumped NNPP to join the ruling APC recently, but his deputy has refused to move with him — creating tension between the two politicians.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Sanusi Tofa, on Sunday in Kano.
Tofa said that a Directorate of Higher Education would oversee tertiary institutions with agencies like the Scholarship Board returning to the Ministry of Education.
He said that the reform was designed to reduce the cost of governance, while enhancing efficiency, accountability, and the overall quality of education administration in the state.
He reiterated that the administration remained fully committed to implementing far-reaching reforms that would revive the education sector and secure a brighter future for the younger generation.
According to the statement, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service have been directed to ensure the immediate and seamless realignment of the affected ministries.
