Former Governor Nasiru El- Rufai’s son, Bashir, has accused Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani of truancy and incompetence, saying the governor, surrounded by incompetent aides, is always sleeping in Abuja.
Mr Bashir revealed this in a series of tweets on his certified X handle on Saturday.
This is the first time the family of the former governor would launched attacks on their father’s political associate and successor.
However, there has been a political lull between El-Rufai and Mr Sani since the former was rejected by the senate during a ministerial screening.
The parliament’s rejection which was based on adverse security reports from the Presidency had delivered a hemorrhaging blow to El-Rufai’s political career.
The junior El-Rufai’s attack is coming hours after Governor Sani, during a town hall meeting on Saturday, decried the huge debt burden he inherited from his predecessor, El-Rufai.
Governor Sani said he inherited a huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual liabilities from the El-Rufai administration, making it difficult for him to pay workers’ salaries.
In his reaction, Mr Bashir accused Governor Sani and his team of gross incompetence, contract inflation and Forex speculation, wondering why they were giving debt burden as an excuse for their poor performance.
Bashir said: “FYI: He was the Senator from Kaduna who lobbied & approved the loans.”
Bashir El-Rufai wrote: “These guys have realised that they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect. From a Governor that is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides that were only rewarded for foolish political reasons.”
Bashir further tweeted, “One would think that from all the FAAC allocations these unserious clowns have changed to dollars, debt would be the least of their problems.
“The current administration in Kaduna is building a banquet hall for 7BN naira and is lamenting about debt left by the previous administration.”
Mr Sani was a senator between 2019 to 2023, representing Kaduna Central.
He took over as governor from Mr El-Rufai on May 29, 2023.
