Death toll from Saturday’s boat mishap in aJumbam and Kaliyari in Tarmuwa Local Government Area in Yobe State has risen to 11.
The Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) who disclosed to Governor Mai-Mala Buni, added that flood, triggered by torrential rains, had destroyed 180 houses and washed off 752 hectares of farmlands.
Meanwhile, Governor on Monday has ordered that all victims of the disaster were given relief materials and those admitted in the hospital received free treatment.
The governor also directed that roads leading to Jumbam and Kaliyari communities ravaged by devastating floods of were rehabilitated.
The governor had to use a helicopter to access the affected communities as all roads leading to them were destroyed by the floods.
Shortly after the aerial inspection, Buni directed the state’s Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Umar Dudaye, to immediately rehabilitate the road leading to the area.
“We have to act fast and smoothly, to restore life in these communities,” the governor said.”
It would be recalled that two passenger boats bound for Babbangida weekly market capsized in a flood wave in the area.
