Junior brother to late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest for the Katsina Central Senatorial district.
Abdulaziz, a retired Army Colonel, also contested for the ticket in 2015 and lost to Umar Ibrahim Kurfi. He again contested in 2019 and lost to incumbent senator Abdullahi Barkiya.
In Saturday’s contest, he scored 310 votes while Umar Ibrahim Kurfi (Nzeribe) got 197 votes, the incumbent Senator Abdullahi Barkiya got 70 votes and a former special adviser to Governor Aminu Bello Masari, Binta Abba Dutsinma got 1 vote.
Few hours before the election began, a forrmer House of Representatives member and immediate past Special Adviser to Masari on political affairs, Kabiru Shu’aibu Charanci withdrew from the race.
In Funtua zone (Katsina South), incumbent House of Representatives member, Muntari Dan Dutse defeated incumbent Senator Bello Mandiya with 405 votes to 123 votes while six votes were invalid.
Dan Dutse represents Funtua/Dandume constituency.
In Daura zone (Katsina North), a House of Representatives member representing Zango/Baure, Nasir Sani Zangon Daura got 486 votes to defeat immediate former Commissioner for Resources development, Mustapha Mahmud Kanti Bello who got 144 votes.
