The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday staged a peaceful rally in Kano as part of a nationwide campaign to draw attention to the growing challenge of insecurity and its impact on workers and national development as it negatively affects the nation.
Addressing the rally on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Chief of Staff, Sulaiman Sani Wali, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining peace and maintaining cordial relations with organised labour. He described the rally as a demonstration of harmony between government and workers, noting that the peaceful conduct of the protest reflected maturity and mutual respect.
He assured labour leaders that the Yusuf administration had continued to prioritise security, with all relevant agencies working together to maintain the relative calm currently enjoyed in the state. According to him, the concerns raised by the NLC would be carefully studied and forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Also speaking on behalf of the NLC President, Muttaqa Yusha’u said the rally followed a resolution of the Congress’ National Executive Council to organise peaceful demonstrations nationwide to sensitise the public and authorities on insecurity.
He said insecurity had continued to affect workers, farmers and traders, noting that fear and instability had disrupted economic activities and contributed to food shortages as many farmers could not safely access their farms.
Similarly, the Kano State Chairman of the NLC, Kabiru Inuwa, commended Governor Yusuf for maintaining relative peace in the state but urged sustained efforts to prevent the spread of insecurity from other parts of the country.
No any form of violence is recorded during the protest as participants walk through the streets of Kano before stopping at the government house.
