Since women are at the receiving end of every conflict situation, there is the need to educate and empower them on how to manage the family during insecurity.
This was the focus of a 2-day workshop organized for women in Kano State by Equal Access International (EAI), a non-governmental organization.
EAI’s Head of Programme, Maryam Mohammed, the objective of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of women towards effective participation and leadership in civilian security in targeted communities of Gezawa, Nassarawa and Ungogo,
She said the workshop was to keep women abreast and equip them on how to protect their families amidst the security challenges bedevilling the country.
Deputy Directorm of Nigeria Gad, an NGO, Peter Shamaki, said the workshop is meant to share ideas and pinpoint the strategic areas to support government towards making lives better for the people.
Shamaki noted that without due consultations, the government would not exactly know what, where, and when it deserves to execute certain projects for the overall benefit of the intended recipients.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Amina Aminu Kano, said women needed to be formally informed on how to protect and safeguard themselves with the realities of life bordering on security challenges in the country, adding that the event had come at the right time to address that.
