The Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, says the future of the nation depends on the empowerment of women.
Shettima said this at the closing ceremony of the Women Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI), Inspiration Women’s Summit (WIW’S) 2025, on Sunday in Abuja.
The summit has the theme “Bold Moves, Boundless Impact”.
WODDI is a nonprofit organisation established in 2008, and dedicated to empowering women, adolescents and young people through mentorship, education and economic empowerment.
The wife of the vice president said it was imperative to empower women as the progress, development, and the future of the nation were closely tied to it.
She said the theme was apt while recognising the crucial role women play in shaping the future of the country.
According to her, it is important for women to lead, embrace your unique strengths, seek out opportunities to lead and take decisive action in your communities, in your workplaces and in every aspect of your lives.
“Be the change you wish to see in this world. Let your journey be one of continuous growth, collaboration and unwavering commitment to those around you.
“Remember that you are the architect of your own destinies, and the future of our nation depends on the empowerment and active participation of women like you,” she said.
She urged the participants to acknowledge the power within them, their inner strength and resilience that would guide them forward.
Shettima commended the founder of WODDI, wife of the former governor of Imo state, Dr Nneoma Okorocha, for the laudable initiative of building brighter future for young girls and women.
Also, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu said he has sponsored and supported bills that promotes the wellbeing and development of women as a legislator.
Kalu said this was to create a dynamic and inclusive environment where women would unlock their full potential, personally and professionally.
According to him, this summit focuses on confidence building, leadership, financial literacy, health and wellness, as well as advocacy.
“It is also to ensures that every woman needs to be inspired, empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives and communities.
“This is why the theme of the summit is a call for women to step beyond self imposed limits, challenge and societal norms,” he said.
The founder of the initiative, Dr Nneoma Okorocha, said the summit was a call to action for women.
According to her, it is a challenge to every woman here including me, to stop waiting, stop second-guessing and start moving boldly.
“The theme dares us to break through ceilings, defy expectations, step fully into our power. It reminds us that playing small does not serve us, and fear has no place where purpose exist.
“This is your moment. The world is waiting for you, not for the version of you that is hesitant, apologetic, or unsure, but for the one who knows her worth and moves like it,” she said
