The incident took place in Jibia, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The couple were joined in matrimony on Thursday, November 18, 2025, but on Sunday afternoon the marital bliss came to a tragic end when the lady allegedly killed her husband.

According to residents, the wife allegedly stabbed the groom with a knife while he was asleep, inflicting a fatal wound on his neck.

A relative of the deceased, Aminu Danladi, revealed that he and some other family members were with the deceased on the morning of the fateful day, planning to visit the family later in the evening.

Abdulkarim then returned home to prepare for the engagement before news reached us that he had been found dead in cold blood in his house, he said.

Aminu said it was not a forced marriage, dispelling a rumour to that effect, adding that the couple had maintained good relations before their wedding.

It was learnt, Zainab, in her 20s and an indigene of Katsina metropolis, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who was her classmate and friend at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia.

Both the groom and his family were reportedly unaware that Zainab Muhammad is a divorcee.

Sources also said after allegedly killeing her husband between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Zainab was said to have appeared confused and had gone to a neighbour’s house asking for food.

This unusual behaviour prompted the older women in the neighbourhood to suspect that something had happened between the newlyweds. When they followed her back home, they discovered the lifeless body of the groom and immediately alerted security operatives.

Police confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing.

The state Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Monday, said, “On November 23rd, 2025, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were quickly drafted to the scene, where the victim was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his neck. The victim was taken to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention; unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

“One person is in custody, suspected to be in connection with the offence as investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a diligent and thorough investigation into the matter and urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the investigation.”
