Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has explained that he stepped down for the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to protect democracy.
Addressing the mammoth crowd that welcomed him back to Sokoto on Friday, the governor described his decision as an important sacrifice.
“It was made on behalf of Sokoto’s PDP to protect our democracy,” he said
Tambuwal stepped down for Atiku few minutes to the commencement of voting and this eased his victory during the convention.
The governor. who was received at the airport by his deputy, Manir Dan’iya, and other leaders of the party in the state, thanked the people of the state for their prayers and support.
“I must acknowledge the strength of your efforts , prayers and sense of unity to this course “, he pointed out.
The governor urged all to close ranks assuring that PDP was poised to forming government through acceptable and non violent means .
