Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, says he declined an honorary degree by a Sudanese university, Nahda International University College (NIUC), Khartoum, because of the prevailing security situation in Nigeria.
Tambuwal’s spokesperson,Muhammad Bello, said in a statement on Tuesday, said the governor is currently in Sudan to attend the graduation of 38 indigenes of the state who obtained degrees in Medicine and other related courses from NIUC and Ibn Sina University.
“I won’t be able to oblige your humble request because of the condition in which my country finds itself at this time,” Tambuwal was quoted to had told the management of the university.
“But you may wish to defer the conferment until a later date. For now, I have come to see my children and wards,” he said.
The statement also quoted Professor Qaribullah to have craved Tambuwal’s indulgence to accept an Award of Excellence instead of the honorary degree.
