Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari says the declaration of emergency in states with security challenges will only compound the problem rather than solving it.
Masari said this while fielding questions from journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The House of Representatives and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare emergency rule in the security sector to effectively tackle insecurity in the country.
But Masari said the military personnel that will be used to execute the emergency situation were already overstretched.
He said the inability of states and local councils to fund responsibilities might escalate the security situation in the country.
