The Dodo of Wawa in Borgu local government area of Niger State, Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, is still in captivity five days after his abduction, 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports.
Bandits had stormed the monarch’s palace in Wawa town and kidnapped him.
The incident which happened shortly after the late evening prayers, created tension across the ancient town.
However, five days after the incident, family members said abductors have not reached out to them as it is always the case with kidnap
cases, adding that his whereabouts is still unknown.
We expected someone to contact the family members and take responsibility for his abduction but so far, we have not heard from anyone,” the family’s spokesman, Malam Ismaillah Nurudden, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on Tuesday.
He said there has been apprehension within the family over the whereabouts of the monarch since the incident.
He noted the people of the town have resorted to prayers for the safe return of the monarch, adding, “the only option for us now is to pray in mosques and churches for the Almighty to touch their hearts and set him free.”
Niger State Police Command through its public ration officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the monarch is still in the custody of the bandits.
“Officers and men of the command along with those of other security agencies are making effort towards securing the release of the monarch,” he explained
