The presidency on Sunday said it is probing the fraudulent transfer of N585 million grant to a private account by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu.
The minister in a viral document directed the transfer of the funds which were meant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun and Lagos states into a private account.
This was revealed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday.
“The matter is under investigation. Appropriate Action will be taken thereafter,” Mr Onanuga said.
The scandal has generated national outrage with various stakeholders calling for the sack of Minister Edu.
However, the minister in a statement on Friday by her spokesperson Rasheed Zubair, said the payment followed due process.
This is even after the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Dr Oluwatoyin Madein has faulted the directive by the minister.
